Student expelled for studying too much

Different strokes they say are for different folks. In the part of Nigeria where I grew up, what could have been  recommended for emulation has been seen as being an obsession in another part of the world.

18 year old Gagliardi has been expelled from Ifield Community College in southern England,  subsequently handed over to the police for refusing to leave the library.
The school accused him of being too obssesed  studying and constituting a nuisance

He said “I have been punished for wanting to do well. I am a hardworking and a dedicated student, and this could have such an impact on my future.”

Marilyn Evans, director of school administration, said: “He became loud and angry that he could not study after school.”

The student went to the library despite being banned from the premises for the day as punishment for disrupting the school principal during a meeting to request special meetings.

Gagliardi is described as the “best student”, who wants to do well on tests, but had been “causing a nuisance and a disturbance on the property.” The school authorities added that “He is obsessed with making the revision after school.”

A police spokesman confirmed that officers were called to the school to remove a “disruptive” student who refused to leave the premises, but said Gagliardi will not face charges.

Japan's Lady of Eternal Youth

Well, this is the 21st century and honestly speaking, a lot of people can do a lot of magic with Adobe Photoshop, but this is no photogimmicks, it is real. MASAKO MIZUTANI is a Japanese model and housewife and even though many will bet that she is just 16, she is actually a mother of two and is aged 43!

Huangluo The World's First Long-Haired Village

It is said that the crowning beauty of a woman is her hair. Well, the ethnic Red Yao women of the Huangluo Village in China have taken the art of hair care to the next level. For them, the hair is the most important possession that any lady can have. They number around 82 households and they got their name from the red clothes that they wear traditionally.

Their village is set in a very beautiful natural environment and they are strongly into maintaining their old traditions, one of which is an obsession with very long hair. To back up their claims, the Guinness Book of World Records has named the 'Long Hair Village' the 'world's longest hair village'. Of the 120 women in Huangluo, the average hair length is 1.7 meters and the longest can exceed 2.1 meters!!! That's taller than most people! Check out the pictures and judge for yourself.

These ladies believe that long hair brings good luck, fortune and blessings. Welcome to Huangluo, where the hair of the women brush against the surface of the road. And for those ladies in love with Brazilian or Indian hair, I guess Chinese hair is the best for you! :)

Thieves Rob Microsoft Office, Take Only iPads

Seriously, this must hurt. Someone raided Microsoft's Silicon Valley Research Center in Mountain View, Calif., and stole five iPads, but left all the Microsoft stuff just sitting there. This happened over the Christmas break. Not a big deal, as these things go. The iPads were worth about $3,000 in total. But still, not a great publicity coup. The news showed up first in a local Palo Alto paper, The Daily Post, after Microsoft reported the theft to police. (They might be wishing they hadn't done that.) Some people thought it might be a hoax, but apparently it's true. Wow.

Obasanjo to Govenor: How can I be colleague to a failure like you?

Every society has theirs. In Nigeria, it is our own Baba Iyabo from Ota. One may wonder if the Ota farmer will ever change. He recently broke a friendly protocol when  described Rochas Okorocha, Governor of  Imo State as failure saying:
"How can I be a colleague of a failure? You are a failure in contesting the presidency of Nigeria!”

“Obasanjo is indeed PDP. But in the actual sense, he’s a national leader. He does not belong to the PDP alone but a national leader of Nigeria. If I have another opportunity to advise him, I will tell him to be the national leader of the country and not the national leader of the party.

“We are here to give honour to whom honour is due. Obasanjo will remain immovable and unshakable. He is a man that is very difficult to describe. He represents different things to different people. But for me, he represents a former colleague. We both ran for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. And later when he appointed me as his adviser, I gave him all the good advice.

“All the good things he did for those eight years, I advised him but all the bad ones he did, I travelled out of the country. I want to join Nigerians to celebrate this icon — this great and steadfast Nigerian, who is not afraid of fighting any battle. But when he starts fighting he doesn’t stop until he finishes fighting. He’s a general’s general and a soldier’s soldier.”

The ever hilarous former president however responded in a sharp twist saying  “I met Okorocha a long ago by virtue of the fact that he was brought up in Jos — one of the few cities that I found in the fifties and seventies as a genuine melting pot in Nigeria. He is a true Nigerian and when he wants to pull me down, he will say we are colleagues. How can I be a colleague of a failure? You are a failure in contesting the presidency of Nigeria!”

Sick firstlady flown out

By SaharaReporters, New York
Nigerian First Lady, Patience Jonathan, is scheduled to visit hospitals in Germany and Spain in a few days, according to medical sources in Abuja.
Mrs. Jonathan, who returned to Nigeria last year after a prolonged stay at a German hospital, is officially headed for Spain but our source said she is scheduled for medical treatment in Germany to ready her fit enough so that she can attend an African First ladies event  scheduled for Addis Ababa later in the month.
Since her tumultuous return from her extended trip abroad last year, Mrs. Jonathan has remained largely marooned inside the Presidential villa only attending few public events and church services in Abuja.  Although SaharaReporters fully reported on her medical excursion in Germany throughout her absence from Nigeria, she claimed not to have been in a hospital.

Our source said the First Lady has been struggling with a variety of ailments that have refused to go away, some of them being complications relating to the surgery she embarked upon during her medical trip abroad.
Concerning Mrs. Jonathan’s trip to Spain, it is known that she had previously attended "health farms" in the Malaga area of the European country.  It is there that a former Nigeria First Lady, Stella Obasanjo, tragically lost her life in a cosmetic surgery operation in 2005.
I pray she gets well real soon.

Federal Goverment bans anti-rape drug

The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) had placed Flunitrazepam distribution under stricter control.
The drug widely known as a date-rape drug patented as Rohypnol by Pfizer and Swinol by Swiss Pharma, is sold under strict control in other countries because of the abuse by teenagers.
According to the restrictions announced Tuesday by NAFDAC, the drug can only be dispensed on doctors' prescription. Holders with authorization to market the drug will also submit quarterly reports to the agency.
The control followed approval from health minister Onyebuchi Chukwu and recommendations by the National Drug Safety Advisory Committee to prevent it's continual abuse.

The drug was allegedly used on Cynthia Osukogu, a 24-year-old postgraduate student of Nasarawa state university, who was drugged and killed last year in a hotel in Lagos by her Facebook friends.
"Until the recent incident which claimed the life of Miss Osukogu, there had not been any report in the database," NAFDAC director general Paul Orhii said at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday.
