Jonathan makes a Uturn on change of UNILAG's name

President Goodluck Jonathan has reversed the change of name of the University of Lagos which he renamed Moshood Abiola University in a broadcast to mark the 2012 Democracy Day.
Chairman, Governing Council of University of Lagos, Professor Jerry Gana disclosed this yesterday in Abuja during his inauguration alongside three others by the Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Rufai
The name change had been the subject of litigation and protests from students and alumni of the institution while a court recently ruled that the change was illegal.
Gana who hailed President Jonathan for retaining the name of the institution. said the president had upheld the Constitution by reversing the change of name of the university.
“This is a pointer to the fact that the current administration is committed to entrenching democracy and justice in the country.’’
Gana, who was responding on behalf of the four councils, said they would ensure that the universities’ communities settled down in peace.
“I assure you that we will do our best to be fair, just and honourable in the discharge of our duties.” He also promised effective leadership with integrity, honour and justice.

Rich People Who Feared Giving Their Children Money

Everyone's always jealous of the kid with the rich parents, but being born rich isn't always a ticket to wealth. After all, not all rich people want to leave piles of money to their children.

And why not? They fear large sums of money will spoil their offspring and ruin their work ethic. They may have a point.

After all, Kim Kardashian and In-N-Out Burger owner Lynsi Torres, both of whom had rich parents growing up, don't sport college degrees. But they sure are successful. Really, really successful.

So who is the exception and what is the rule?

Bill Gates
Microsoft founder Bill Gates, the world's second-richest man, told The Sun in 2010 that he will donate most of his money to charity and "give the kids some money but not a meaningful percentage." He said on Reddit in February: "I definitely think leaving kids massive amounts of money is not a favor to them."

Warren Buffett
Billionaire investor Warren Buffett plans to donate most of his fortune to charity. Peter Buffett, Buffett's second-oldest son, told DailyFinance in 2011 that his father "transferred values to me, and not wealth."

Ted Turner
CNN founder Ted Turner, who has donated $1 billion to the United Nations, doesn't have much money left for his kids. He told MSNBC in 2010 that he is "almost to the edge of poverty" -- that is, his net worth is only $2 billion, according to Forbes.

Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs, the late Apple CEO who revitalized the company, said in an interview with Playboy in 1985: "If you die, you certainly don’t want to leave a large amount to your children. It will just ruin their lives."

George Lucas
George Lucas, the writer-director behind the Star Wars series, doesn't plan to leave much money for his kids; he is giving most of it to charity. He wrote in a pledge letter that he is "dedicating the majority of [his] wealth to improving education" because "it is the key to the survival of the human race," according to The Wall Street Journal.

Graham Tuckwell
Graham Tuckwell, the founder and chairman of ETF Securities, who has donated $50 million to Australian National University for scholarships, told the Sydney Daily Telegraph he does not plan to give much money to his kids because "lots of money is poisonous to have." "If you just give them stuff, it almost destroys their desire to do things and you actually end up with kids who are a lot worse off." (Hat tip: CNBC.)

Steven Hayworth
Steven Hayworth, ex-CEO of Gibraltar Private Bank, told the New York Times in 2010 that he was glad his daughter was going to work at a clothing store that summer because he wanted her to learn "the value of a dollar."

Why APGA can't join Merger- Peter Obi

Governor Peter Obi had on Sunday said that joining the merger would result in his party APGA losing its identity, which he said would be contrary to the ideals of its late leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who believed that it was better for the Igbo to be a majority in a minority by sticking to APGA, rather than joining a majority group where they would lose their identity and remain unheard.

The King Who Ruled Longer Than Any Other

Over time, the world has heard of history of kings and queens. But as there are ordinary rulers, there are also extraordinary ones. Today, we will take a look at the king who ruled far longer than any other king in the world. NGWENYAMA SOBHUZA II was the Paramount Ruler and the King of Swaziland for a mind-blowing 82 years and 9 months!!!
King Sobhuza II of Swaziland in his traditional attire.

The current King of Swaziland and Sobhuza's son, King Mswati III.

Princess Sikhanyiso Dlamini, one of King Sobhuza II's over 1,000 grandchildren.

He succeeded the throne on December 10, 1899 when he was just a few months old However, Sobhuza II's grandmother, Labotsibeni Mdluli acted as the Regent until 1921.

It was under Sobhuza II that Swaziland gained independence from Britain and the current king, Mswati III is often referred to as Africa's last absolute monarch. Swaziland is in southern Africa and the capital is Mbabane.

Well, there is another aspect of this great king that Iyaniwura will not forget to point out: he was prolific and polygamous, as is the tradition in Swaziland, where the king picks a new virgin wife every year in the annual Reed Dance. King Sobhuza II married 70 wives and had 210 children. That will give us about three kids per wife. Well, around 30 of the kids died during infancy while there are 97 sons and daughters still alive today. As at the time he died in 1982, he had more than 1,000 grandchildren! Ogalagaju! Opa eyin buruku nbe ni Swaziland o!

Babangida Aliyu challenges Jonathan to be a true christian, prays for success of opposition merger

As 2013 draws near, political gladiators are getting set to take over from President Goodluck Jonathan notably among which are governors presently serving on the platform of his party namely Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State, Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State, Ibrahim Shema of Katsina State, Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State and Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State.

Aliyu,  during an interview with a Kaduna-based radio station, Liberty said “What will be, will be in 2015. We must remind people of the promises they have made. When he (Jonathan) was going to declare, governors of PDP were brought together to ensure that we were all in the same frame of mind. Some of us, given the PDP zoning, were expecting that the northern states would produce the President for these number of years but God has done His own.

“At that discussion, it was agreed that President Jonathan would serve one term and we all signed and when he went to Kampala, he said the same thing. But for now, President Jonathan has not declared his candidacy and we must not be speculating based on who those are benefiting from such a thing. I believe that we are all gentlemen enough and when the time comes, we will all sit down and see what the right thing to do is.

“Many people may misunderstand my stance that I pray for the success of the merger of the opposition parties because I want a situation where in this country, parties can really challenge one another. So that we don’t take it for granted that because you have been winning elections, you can do as you wish. There is a purpose for election. There is a purpose for setting up government. You set up government for the competence, effectiveness and efficiency of running an administration. You don’t set it up because of a group of people to keep on enjoying to the detriment of the people.”

In a quick denial Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Dr. Ahmed Gulak said in response “President Goodluck Jonathan did not win the presidential election in Governor Aliyu’s state, Niger.

“Anybody who has a presidential ambition, it is such a person’s constitutional right to have ambition.

“He should however go about his ambition without coming up with frivolous allegations.

“President Jonathan did not sign such an agreement with anybody to the best of my knowledge.

“The alleged agreement only exists in the figment of the imagination of somebody with presidential ambition.”

Nigerians need 22 million naira to give birth in US- Embassy

The American Embassy in Nigeria had recently stipulated the minimum requirements before they are allowed to delivered in the states. They outlined some of the conditions required to get such visa which falls under Medical tourism category
This it said, is necessary to encourage applicants to be truthful during visa interviews.
One: The applicant has to show proof of available funds of at least $140,000 (about N22 million) to pay medical fees, and secondly, the applicant has to show proof of the need for medical attention in the US such as high risk pregnancy and the likes.
US Embassy Chief of Consular Section, Ms. Carol Cox, in an interview with select journalists in Abuja, yesterday disclosed that it would cost at least $60,000 to have a baby in the US.

In instances where complications arise from the delivery, the medical bills may go as high as $140,000.
Availability of the funds, Cox said is very important as it is necessary to ensure that American taxpayers do not have to pay such bills.
“We owe the American public who pay taxes to make sure that those who seek medical services in the US pay for such services. This is essential because there are those who have the money and are not willing to pay.
“It is very frustrating when you see a woman who is obviously pregnant, sometimes seven months gone, tell you during a visa interview that she is just going to the US for a vacation,” she said.

Goldie's husband recounts moments shared with her

When did you wed her? And were you still married as at when she passed yesterday?
We wed in December 2005 and were very much married when she passed indeed I was talking to her on arrival in Lagos before the fateful event
I work in Malaysia, we have a private home in UK, I do not have a second family
No kids, we were planning this year

How did you hear of her death? I found out you last saw her in December?
I was talking to her on arrival in Lagos before the fateful event

I see you moved back to England. Do you have another family?
Also did you have kids together?
There had been speculation for many years that she was married to an ‘oyinbo’ man. But no one could lay hands on anything. Why did you keep it a ‘secret’?
Our private life is nothing to do with work life, there has to be a balance.
Continue to read more..

How did you meet her? She must have been very young…
I met her at a friend’s leaving party and fell in love straight away, but had to work hard to persuade her I was genuine

So you will be planning to come here for burial rites…
Yes I have applied for visa and shall come next week

But how did you manage the Prezzo drama?

Prezzo was part of BBA game, just like in the movies, there was nothing to fear

But funny it dragged way beyond BBA
It dragged because the media dragged it, other wise it would have died naturally. Prezzo will say anything to get attention

Do you think he fell in love? And did you ever think Susan liked him for a minute…?
People fall in love and it’s not impossible to love more than one person, but there are different levels. She liked him initially, but began to despise him and distanced herself as he tried to use her she complained he was very manipulative

How did you come about your alias ‘Oyibopeppay?
Oyiiibopeppay is a name used in the villages for white man getting burned in the sun. I used to work in the bush erecting BTS for MTN and Glo

You have direct access to her password? The memories album was posted on her twitter. Or you requested for an admin to post?
I am an official admin. I don’t need any password but my own. It was authorised by Goldie

One last question: so much speculation on cause of death. I see from your facebook timeline that you’ve followed the reports. Have the doctors/family/label told you what the cause of death is?
An autopsy is being carried out and we will await results. The rest is speculation and hearsay

And did she have any medical condition?
She had no medical condition,

Is it true she was in India recently?
She was in Malaysia, we spent Christmas together away from prying eyes

What will you miss most about her?
Everything, she was the most beautiful person I ever met, no moment was wasted. Sweet, intelligent, sexy and a magnificent cook!!!!

And she was a determined young lady…
Very. That’s what I liked about her

Are you originally from England? Was she officially a citizen of your country by marriage? Or that was not concluded?
I’m from England and was processing Nigerian citizenship before I was transferred to Malaysia. Of course she was citizen of UK before we met, she lived and schooled there

She was indeed a star, as I’m sure you’ve seen from the tributes coming from far and near. Even the BBC and Billboard recognise her star
Yes we saw it on BBC news tonight. It is a devastating loss, but I support just as much wherever she has gone to.

Dickson Approves Death Penalty For Kidnappers In Bayelsa

The Governor of Bayelsa state seems to be saying "Abduct someone and die to Kidnappers in the state as he emphasized on his statements while he signs into law the new bill passed by the state house of assembly.

“It is morally indefensible for young people for whatever reason to go under the cover of darkness, armed with illegal weapons, terrorize villages and old people in their homes and then forcefully abduct and rough handle old people and take them as an article of trade. That is morally indefensible.

“It cannot be justified under any circumstance at all. As a government, we are by this law sending out a strong message of condemnation and that we are prepared and determined to work with our able security agencies as a team together to flush out such criminals from within Bayelsa or wherever they are operating from.

“As I said earlier, and most people know that when I say something, I do it. I will not hesitate to sign a certificate,(warrant) of execution.

Nigeria's President Jonathan's convoy crashes in Paris

Culled: Sahara reporter

It has been exclusively gathered that President Goodluck Jonathan's motor convoy was yesterday involved in an accident in Paris as the Nigerian president was traveling with his aides to a meeting with the French President Francois Gerard Hollande. The sources disclosed that the accident occurred 15 minutes away from the Elysee Palace, the venue of the official meeting with the French leader. “The car involved in the accident was the fifth car behind that of President Jonathan,” said a French police source.
Jamilu Waziri, a presidential liaison officer (PLO), was injured in the accident and had to be taken to a Paris hospital where he received treatment for a broken ankle. As a result of the accident, Mr. Waziri was unable to attend the meeting.
Our source said Mr. Waziri later flew with President Jonathan who is due to arrive in Abuja shortly. The wounded officer walked with aid of a pair of crutches.
A French official confirmed the accident to Saharareporters. The large size of the Nigerian delegation meant that Mr. Jonathan's aides could not fit into the official vehicles provided by the French government. According to the French source, a car rented by the Nigerian embassy in Paris to convey some of the Nigerian delegates was involved in the accident. Asked who was liable for any damages that resulted from the accident, the source disclosed that French authorities “would not be liable for injuries or damages from the car crash.”

It is not a surprise anyway to hear that Nigeria convoy is the extra large one

Senate describes proposed 4 Billion Naira Patience Jonathan's mission as scandalous

Members of the Nigeria Senate had heavily criticized some parts of FCT budgets describing it as scandalous and illegal. Such parts include N4 billion proposed in the budget for the First Lady Mission house.

Other projects highly criticized include N150 million for the renovation of the Vice President’s guest house in Asokoro, five billion Naira to rehabilitate commercial sex workers and the destitute and seven billion Naira for the construction of two city gates in the FCT.
The total of  FCT’s budget proposal is N253 billion.

Nigeria is a country of estimated with an average population of 170 million people and human development index of 0.459 with a world position of 156. One may wonder if these were the capital expenditure our Harvard trained  the Minister of Finance is encouraging the Government to spend more money on.

Awada Kerikeri: Ariseko Alao's son permitted by court to exit the country

Nigeria and her many wonders. On daily basis we see what couldn't bee liken to a scene in the popular cinema play of  Baba Sala called "awada kerikei" in almost all aspect of our society. More recently our law courts have not been spared of this show of shame from the 750,000 fine for stealing millions to striking out  electoral cases the bases of technicality.  Another episode of the awda (comedy) has been set in Ikeja high court in Nigeria in which Abdulahi Alao  the son of Arisekola Alao facing a N1.8 billion fuel subsidy fraud charge alongside Mahmud Tukur, son of the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur; Alex Ochonogor and Eternal Oil Plc preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was given permission by the court to travel oversea for a purported medical check up.
I only wonder if the learned men of the law society handling the case were not student of history. Many Nigerians on trial by the EFCC in the past had jumped bail and refused to come back for their trial. I smiled i in French when I read that EFCC lawyer consented to the bail on the condition that he will return to continue the case. One may ask distinguished Nigerians, will a man planning of jumping bail admit that he will do so when applying for such?
